I've planted the Large Lads the last two years on 38" spacing with a conventional planter. I was targeting ducks but got a high-protein, summer forage plot for deer as well. They stayed green for 5 months and started to lose foliage in mid October. They hold up well in droughty conditions as some of mine went without rain for 7 weeks in late summer. The plants held their seed in the pod well into the winter both years. Actually, as of February 15, 2014, I still have seed in pods in flooded duck impoundments and the birds are pulling them off of the stalks as high as they can reach. They will remain a part of my wildlife management program in the future as a dual-purpose food plot for deer and ducks.
